My PPR came March 24, 2014 and we sent everything express mail which reached them 31st March. ECAS then changed to decision made on April 4, 2014.
In the PPR email it said our PR visa will expire April 29,2014!!
Since my COPR will be coming to Canada via mail I expressed to them in a cover letter (when sending passport copies) that the timeframe is very tight and could my medicals be extended so that there is more time on the PR visa.
Does anyone know if medicals can be requested for an extension after the ppr ? Or do you think they will just send in the mail not realising that the postal service is 1. Slow 2. Unreliable?

Yes, they can still request the extension this late. I'd reply to the PPR e-mail with the same request so that they can start the process (and so it doesn't go into some automatic processing without the Officer requesting the extension).
Yeah I did email them and I put a letter in with the passport copies. It's just since they received them they changed ecas to decision made. I've had no notification from them that they are going forward with an extension. Hopefully it all works out !!!

Hopefully it will. This close to your medical expiration, unless you've told them you're ok with the date, they should extend it for you.
Even after you get the CoPR, you can always return it to them and tell them you can't land so soon. If for some reason they can't extend the medical, they would ask you to redo it (unlikely if you live in the UK since AFAIK it isn't one of the designated areas).
Well in the letter it was pretty clear from me that i thought the COPR wouldn't arrive in time and therefore wouldn't leave us enough time to get an appointment or even flagpole potentially.
I hope they know what they are doing there in London. :-X

The validity of a permanent resident visa may not be extended. Nor can replacement visas be
issued with a new validity date. If foreign nationals do not use their visas, they must make a new
application for a permanent residence visa.
They must also pay a new application processing fee. If they have paid a right of permanent
resident fee (RPRF), they do not need to pay it again. The RPRF may be collected only once.
Sometimes, due to factors beyond their control, applicants receive visas that are valid for less
than two months. If they cannot travel before their visas expire, officers should update whichever
requirement (e.g., medical) was used to set the visa validity. When a new validity date has been
obtained, a new visa will be issued.
found this page with a newer update date on it. It also explains in a chart which i thought was easier to understand
cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/medic/assess/cert.asp
While that's always an option, the advantage of the Visa Officer to extend it is that you save the cost of an additional medical exam (and in many cases travel that entails).
I'm a bit confused, my husbands medical exam will expire probably before they make a decision if he is approved to be a permanant resident. How do we go about getting the extension or will they do it automatically because it will have just expired?
