I am American, married to a Canadian, and I'm here in Canada on a visitor visa. My husband will be sponsoring me. I have everything together for my PR application exept the medical exam, but I'm unsure of a couple of things. It is okay for me to have the exam done here in Canada, even if I will be applying outland, right? Or not? Also, the way I understood it, I am supposed to have the medical exam done BEFORE sending my application. However, on the CIC website, I read the following:
Medical Examination Instructions
Instructions on how to take the medical examination will normally be sent to you after you submit your application to the visa office.
So, now I'm not sure if I send in the application first, THEN get the medical exam done. I thought for sure I had read on this forum that one is supposed to submit all the paperwork at the same time.
You can have you exam in Canada. I'm from the states on a visitor visa and did this. Yes, do the exam before you send the app. In the checklist it asks for IMM 1017. You should get this from the doctor. Also, take appendix C with you (in the country specific forms).
Different types of applications have different requirements. Some types of applicants have to wait for CIC to send them paperwork for the medical exam - but spousal/common-law applicants are very clearly instructed to include the proof of medical exam with the application. It's right there in the document checklist that tells you everything you need to include in your package.
