I have spent hours searching this forum and found some ppl with similar case as mine, but I dont see further discussion there so I just open a new post and see if someone can fill me in.
I have submitted the CEC (using research assistant as work experience) application in mid Sept, 2011. I received a letter two days ago asking me for medical exam. I am surprised as it is only about 1-month's time. I know that the average CEC process should take about 14 month.
So my question is that, do they now change the procedure so that the early medical exam request doesnt really mean anything? After I send out the medical report next week, am I still looking for the 14 month timeline or should I expect to receive some good news earlier? Any ideas?
The closest case I can find on this forum is this one
w w w .canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/received-medical-request-after-1-month-of-cec-case-filing-is-it-commmon-t84151.0.html
But I dont see much follow up or discussion there.
Yes, the procedures have changed, they are requesting medicals much earlier in the process than before (when it took 14 months). It is impossible to predict how long it will take now, there is just no data since the procedures have changed. Just a guess, it will be less than 14 months, but receiving the medical request now does not mean that your application has passed the initial assessment.
The thing is that I would finish my study end of this year and I am having problem to get an LMO for junior position (in Alberta). I am deciding if I should stay in Canada next year to wait for the result or to go back my country to wait for the result.
Hey, does anyone know where can I get more information about this new procedure?
No, this is just observation from people's experiences on this and the Trackitt website. Most of us are not privy to the inner workings of CIC.

If you are studying in Canada, you may be eligible for a Post Graduate Work Permit - if so, you would not need an an LMO.
The problem for me is that I have already applied PGWP, and somehow I wasted it because I went back to school and it is expired this May. My situation is stranger than most cases.
I see... well, you would have until the end of your study permit, which is ... ? It's possible, but not not certain, that you would have a response from CIC by then.
As for getting an LMO for a "junior position" - not sure what that means, not enough info. NOC would be better. But in any case, if you decide to go "home" for a break, there's nothing wrong with that, in terms of processing your CEC application.
