Maximum stay with vistor multiple visa

I am from middle east, I have got vistor multiple visa for two years. What is the maximum length I can stay in Canada, note that the validity period of the passport is two years? Friend said that might to stay only six months but he is not sure

Six months. You can then apply for an extension. No guarantee that extension will be approved.

But the multiple visa is valid till end of 2014.

Correct. All that means is that you have been granted the priviledge of entering Canada more than once until the end of 2014.

Your individual visits are still limited to six months. Again, you can apply to extend this six month visit once you are in Canada.
