Until this year, I'd never ordered CAIPS notes (now GCMS notes) but given the long strange trip its been (and the past week's been a crescendo of strangeness) I use them just to keep track of what's going on and trying to ensure that I don't go insane in the process. If it makes you feel better. with four different applications in various states of processing I only ask for notes from two of them.
I'm the applicant and I'm in Canada, so I order them for myself. That way they are free. Otherwise, you would order them for your spouse if he or she is outside Canada ($5 fee).
I've done both, but these days I scan and send the ATIP requests. They send back an automated response indicating that they received the e-mail, so it's pretty much automatic (and at this point I order a new set a few days after I received the old set.)
Well, one of them was refused (I ordered a copy of the entire physical file for that one) and the other was just submitted in August (work permit renewal). But the two I order are presumably in process...

I've never ordered paper format, always just e-mail, so I'm not sure.
I DO know that if you ask for a copy of the physical file it takes longer (almost 3 months for me) because someone has to actually pull the physical file and scan it/copy it and send it to the office in Ottawa.
October 4th.....I can check in Cuba but I am worried I won't have access to any attachments on my emails in their internet cafe.....I definetely won't be able to print them out...but I hopefully will be able to read them.....so BCgirl2012....seeing as my 30 calendar days would fall on a Sunday, being September 30th....I would probably get them on the Monday being the 1st of October???
