Looking for work on a tourist visa?

Maybe a strange question, but I'll ask anyway.

There are countries--like Japan--where one is not allowed to seek employment while on a tourist visa. I haven't seen anything on Canada's immigration website to indicate that it is one of those countries. Am I missing something?

You can look but from our experience, you wont be very successful. Getting a company to commit to hiring a foreign worker is a pretty big thing. There is a working holiday visa that you can get for Canada which will allow you to stay and work in Canada for a year.
