Hi Everyone

I am looking for the opinions on the likelihood of obtaining an LMO without formal education in my area of expertise.

Currently I am working on in Canada through a IEC working Holiday Visa which has 5 months validity left.
The intention is to stay in Vancouver Canada.

My area of work is linux/unix administration which I have been doing for ~10 years and about ~12 years in the IT industry.
Essentially I build computer operating systems and install required applications/middleware.
The associated NOC code would be 2173 I believe.
My degree is a Bachelor of Arts in History/Film from Auckland University (yeah I know.)
I have a few industry related exams but nothing substantial.

The NOC matrix states "Occupations Usually Require University Education"
When a job is in demand but I do not have formal education in my field what chance do I stand of obtaining a visa?

Thanks in Advance.

Your educational background shouldn't be an issue given your extensive experience and the fact you do have a BA (just not in an area related to your occupation).

Make sure your employer really does a good job of demonstrating the advertising requirement for the LMO applications. It tends to be difficult to get IT-related LMOs approved.

thanks...

Why are the IT related LMO's so difficult? Is this just a supply and demand problem.
My recruiter advises that Linux related jobs are not too easy to fill.

Yes - supply and demand. I can't comment on the Vancouver market - but to the best of my knowledge these types of roles are easy to fill in Toronto.
