Hi,
I have a question regarding the landing process.
Does my wife need to fill up COPR before landing? Or is it filled on site?
Also does she have to make a list of what she is bringing. All she has is clothes, very little jwellery and some household items she is bringing along.
Also, do they stop and open your bags to go through the list and compare to what you have written down?
I would also be interested to know the answer to these questions so I am bumping this thread up to the top.
I am curious to know this too...
No need to fill anything.
And for curiosity, it's better to READ the accompanying papers when visa/COPR is issued.
It has all the information.
I hate it when people put answers like that. My first question I ever asked on this forum someone replied with a link to CIC website. Thanks anyways, right?
The original poster is wondering if she should make a list of what they are taking and if it's likely that their bags will get searched when they land.
I also would be interested to know this. I assumme that because you're coming to Canada to live that it doesn't matter how much stuff you are bringing (as long as its not more than the 2 bags, 1 carry on and it follows weight restrictions) because you are coming to live there forever. So it should be fine to bring household stuff and lots of clothes and everything as long as you are following airline regulations and customs rules about bringing plants and all that other restricted stuff. But I think the main worry is y'know...are we expecting to get hassled as we are coming home. I've heard that we will get interviewed when we land, makes sense. How much time should we expect to spend in customs? Will they search our bags? What have people experienced? It is generally a friendly welcome to Canada, or a more hostile "lets look for a reason to send you back." It's something to know anyways, so that you can have an idea of what to expect.
If anyone who is already done the landing can post where they landed (which airport) and their experiences, I think it would help out the original poster and give everyone else some good information on what to expect.
Here is a compilation of landing experience posted previously in this forum:

With regards of bringing stuff to Canada, there are no limits of how many bags/boxes/containers you can import to Canada as long as you prepared your B4 form, declare what you bringing and you comply with the restrictions as set in the CBSA website. How much time you will spend in the customs, generally depends on how busy the customs is - if there is no line up before you, then you would spend less time. They may or may not search your bags. If they do, you would spend more time in the customs. Have a wonderful landing!

Airlines rules and regulations for the luggage is for example igf you are traveling with Delta, air france, al italia , the lugggae wight is one chek in luggage no more than 23 kg, if you are coming with another airliens like turkish airliens you are aloud 2 check in luggage ibn each one hass to be 23 kg or 50 ppunds, it is depnedce for the airlines just check with the airlines what is the rules, you can not bring the plants and food, they will check the baggage if you are having, check this link more details
http://www.catsa.gc.ca/Page.aspx?ID=58&pname=CompleteItemList_ListeCompleteArticles&lang=en
Good luck
Why are you confusing the new people by talking about Airline luggage restrictions ? this got nothing to do with how much you can bring. Anyone can cargo Extra baggage, or Even Ship it. When you first come there is not limit (virtually) you can even bring your Car if you like. You just have to list it on B4 and tell them what you are bringing here.
The difference between the new immigrant and any other person is that you are Exempt from custom duties as you are moving to Canada, you have right to bring all your stuff and not pay any duty on it.
Only restrictions are the item that are prohibited to bring as by CBSA website and I think there is also something about new stuff like if you buy a brand new car just to bring it here and save tax.
In summary
- You can bring anything and as much you like and can (except prohibited items) (By Air, Ship or Road) before or after; with you or not, but the moment they are listed on the B4 Form, you are allowed to have them.
- You have to make list of all items with value (like jewellery, electronics etc) No need to list clothing.
- You baggage can be checked or not at discretion of immigration officer as it is the case with any traveller coming back to Canada. There is not rule or law, it is the immigration officer who decide who's bag he want to open and check.
Hope it helps
