Landing in Ontario questions

I would be out of Canada for 29 days I just counted haha so cutting it close!
I'm beginning to lose faith in the copr coming before we go home anyway but it's good to have as much information as possible just incase

So today my fiancee and I did her flagpole landing at the Rainbow bridge in Niagara Falls.

We ended up just driving across the bridge into the USA first, since she wanted to do a bit of shopping and see the US side of the Falls. She holds a Korean passport, so that involved a quick 10 minute stop at the US border office to get a temporary US travel visa for her (cost $6).

Driving back, we just told the gate attendant at the Canadian border we needed to do a PR landing, so we parked and this time went into the Canadian border office. I beleive if you are walking across the bridge, you just tell the US side you want to do a landing and they will give you paperwork and send you immediately to the Canada border office.

Basically the landing took all of 5 minutes in and out. There was nobody else waiting, and the whole thing was just done at the counter. Border guy just checks your passport, confirms your address and phone # in Canada, fills a few things out in the computer and its done. PR card is then sent in 2 months.

At this time they also took back my fiancee's student visa as this is no longer valid after getting the PR. Similarly they would take any Canadian work, visitor or other visa you may have. This is a big concern for us because she is now without any valid visa for Canada, and we are leaving in less than 3 weeks to Mexico! So we are scrambling to ensure can get a temp visa from the Mexico Visa office.

Anyways that was it. Super easy process. On the way home we also stopped by a Govt office and spent 10 minutes getting her new SIN number (you can do this with just the CoPR form).

Hey Rob,

Your fiancee can return to Canada using her Korean passport. No other visa is needed because she has the COPR in her passport. Korean passport is visa exempted.

What do you mean by having the CoPR in her passport? We only have the actual paper CoPR which is stamped with a big "not valid for travel" stamp!
In the passport itself there is only a general stamp from Rainbow Bridge, and then a hand written number under it, T60022....

This post is exactly what I'm going through now, we just got our CoPR today, and will do the landing in Niagara tomorrow! Thanks for all the info Rob_TO!

Regarding travel, my wife has a Japan passport and everytime we travelled (LA, SF, Cuba) by air, and US by car, we always worried about re-entry, but I always went to the CBSA together and did all the talking. They will usually ask her "How long do you plan on staying in Canada", and she'll reply "untill the expiry date". A few times, the border agent told us, if you explain everything in detail, the officer should be OK but if there's some information that isn't clear, they may deny entry. We never ever felt such a situation from the border officers (YVR, YYZ, YUR) as well as Sarnia clear water bridge.
