Hello, my in laws (from India) have applied for Canada visit visa last week and they received biometric request. I wanted to check if their application is approved, they receive visa till what date? Their passport is valid till 2031.

I heard from someone they are issuing visa only for 6 months from the application approval date. Is this true?

biometrics request is initiated electronically after submitting the application online. it is another part of the visa process. biometrics are collected for every application and stored for 10 years in the system.
this step is system generated and does not mean visa approval or refusal
it's another step in the application process

I understand that. That is not the question.
Question is if their application is approved, they receive visa till what date?

it could be anywhere between 6 months to 2031
no one can predict this

a visit visa gives you an opportunity to stay upto 6 months in Canada whereas supervisa is a lot more time. when the applicant enters Canada the border security people would ask how long are you staying for? people generally say the time they are expecting to stay. in some cases the officer might give you a lesser duration of stay and stamp the passport with an exit date, in most cases they don't stamp anything and the stay could be for upto 6 months each time. the visa issued are multiple entries.
