I am travelling outside country on a pre-planned trip (not a family emergency) and will be back on Nov 5th in evening
I emailed Niagara office regarding reschedule but got a pretty blunt response, that they will not do anything.
While I understand the rules but Rescheduling flights for 2 people will cause quite a financial burden.
You have been sent a Notice to Appear for the Oath of Citizenship under sections 13.2(1)(b) and 23.1 of the Citizenship Act. Please note the Notice to Appear is not an invitation as there is no discretion on whether or not to attend.
A request to reschedule a Citizenship Ceremony event is only considered under exceptional circumstances, ie death of an immediate family member, hospitalization of an immediate family member, or other situation of emergency/ critical nature etc. Each request must be made in writing and must be accompanied by the supporting documentation ie death certificates, doctor’s notes, departure and return airline tickets or documentation to support the request etc
Please note, airline tickets alone will not suffice. You must provide your reason to reschedule along with documents to support your reason.
Do you have any suggestions if there is anything I can do?
Will raising a web form result in a similar response?
Looking up online Niagara seem to give the same blunt responses on reschedules but seem to reschedule the ceremony if you miss it?

Updated. Not sure if airlines can help. Try abd call and explain your situation, that you were called abruptly. Maybe they will charge a partial amount. I'm not sure how they will view it if you don't attend. So I'll let more experienced people comment
How often did you travel? I see that you only have two days buffer and it can lead to additional scrutiny. Usually scarborough is quick, so that's a positive if it's still with that office
Guys I applied on 1 June 2024.AOR 7 june 2024 . 17 Aug I passed citizenship test. 5sep request for fingerprint.17 September language and physical presence marked completed.17 October Ircc received my fingerprint from RCMP. Yesterday called ircc agent said everything ok only security in progress. Any idea how long this will take
I’m in the same boat but for me ircc said they haven’t received my fingerprints that i did on sept 19 and RCMP mailed it on sept 26 so they said criminality in still in progress LPP is complete just BG in is progress

Same with me, did my FP on Sep 18, sent to IRCC on Sep 24, called yesterday and the agent said they haven’t received them yet. She advised to mail in the original RCMP FP receipt to Vancouver office, which I did yesterday. LPP not started yet.
