I have a question about the photographs though.

It says on the website: "Permanent Resident Card photos are not the same as passport photos. You must provide photos that meet the following requirements. If not,we will return your application."

So the 2 photos that they requested me are for the PR Card?

Yet the specifications for both are the same...

That is correct. The specifications are a little different to that of the pictures which you should have sent initially with your application.

How many days it took?

I called CIC today, I received PR at the end of June and they have posted my card already. This seems to be about the average waiting time.

That's good to know that cic at least has a track of our pr card....

You should order GCMS notes or go to your MP to find out what's going on with your application.

In the month of May, Got Query from CIC asking for employment contract letter. I provided with enough documents. Till date no response. My GCMS has no update too except for "employment contract letter".

If you had provided the letter, then be positive and wait for their next step. very well may be that your MR is on the way.
If you are worried, as others suggested (granted you are in Canada) you can try contacting your MP, but it's obvious they did have some doubts (for whatever reason) about your application, and requested a letter. it's good that they did, your next step should be MR.
I applied in late May and got my MR only at the end of August. Don't be discouraged by slow progression, stay positive.

send email to the CIC Minister with all your details, they replied me after 1 month but they asked the officials directly and told me exactly why I faced the delays. Best of Luck!

I've received my passport back on Oct 9th 8)
