@ tworontwo I will send you a copy of my CV which you can use as reference while modifying yours. In my personal experience its extremely difficult to get a job when you are not in Canada, as the speed at which jobs close when they do close is super fast. The employer will meet you today and then if they like you it will all be done and you will get your offer by the end of the week..I got 2 offers here the first one I got was super fast, attended the interview in the morning and had the offer in the evening, but they werent paying much, the second one which I have taken up took 2 weeks to complete. So in my opinion, you would stand a better chance if you are here in person.

Hi Rishab,
First of all congratulations on your new job in Canada.
I've recently started exploring Canada immigration process, and I came across this forum after getting myself assessed by Campbell Cohen law firm. Since I am not an engineering graduate (Diploma in Computer Engg), and with only 13 yrs of full time education, I believe I would only qualify for QSW category. The law firm has stated we can start the immigration process immediately but I dont want to rush in so soon. I'm a Network Management professional with 9 yrs of experience specializing in Network Management (NMS) toolsets. I am an expert in NMS domain, and also have got a few certifications to substantiate my skills. I consider myself very lucky to have had an opportunity to work with Fortune500 companies in India, but do you believe an undergraduate with IT skills stand a chance getting a decent job in Canada?

I appreciate all the effort you're taking to guide newcomers like us.

In my honest opinion, once you move out of India nobody care about your degree/diploma, in my own case I did a degree called Bachelor of Corporate Secretaryship from University of Madras in 2000 and as of 2003-4 the university itself has discontinued this stream!! and the degree doesnt exist in India anymore. Unless you are a medical professional I dont think your degree really matters in Canada it only serves to prove the point that you are a suitably educated person. What really matters here is your experience, professional certifications and your ability to articulate, prove your skills and convince your future employer about your capability to do the job for which you are applying. This is what worked in my case I have a PMP and ITIL certificate both of which are internationally recognized, I have 12 yrs of work exp which I have explained well in my CV and in person. At the end of the day the companies in Canada are hiring you for your abilities and skills and not a Degree...which is anyways irrelevant to them because it was obtained in another country whose educational systems have nothing in common with Canadian educational systems.

The only thing you should worry about is that you qualify for QSW which is specific to Quebec and to work in Quebec FRENCH is a must....even if the job doesnt require French the company and your colleagues will expect you to know French because its the official language. So being bilingual and the ability to communicate effectively in french is a must if you want to survive in Quebec...and since you are coming as a provincial nominee it means that atleast initially you have no choice but to find work in Quebec and live there, unlike a FSW (Federal Skilled Worker) application which gives you rights to live anywhere and work, a provincial nomination program has some initial restrictions.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, learning French is a must if I need to increase my chances of being selected. Campbell Cohen is also offering a french learning course free as part of their service offerings for a limited period, to gain "high beginner" level proficiency. Though its not going to be easy at all I'm sure. About the restrictions, they told me that during the application process, applicants should have the intention of living in the province of Quebec. After landing in Canada, a successful applicant will then have the right to live and work anywhere they wish, for any employer they want, anywhere in Canada.

As for the law firm, would you recommend using their services? I know lot of people say its not really necessary to hire a lawyer/consultant, but for a Provincial category such as QSW it can sometimes get complex. Reading through reviews, I find they are very good, and haven't really seen a negative feedback about their services. Their fees is much higher campared to some of the immigration consultants we have in India, who have shocking reviews and complaints against them.

One last question if you dont mind please. Once you get your VISA, is there a deadline for the applicant to land in Canada? Suppose, if he doesnt get a suitable job and decides to return back after some months, does it affect his VISA?

1. I dont thin a provicinal PR will let you land in the province and then move out of the provice for work. please check this on www.cic.gc.ca

2. Using a lawyer/consultant is individual preference. In my case I used one and it made the process simpler and less of a headache for me, but some other people have got cheated badly when they used a consultant, so its completely upto you, dont just check this forum alone, check other forums to see what people are saying about different consultants, do your research thoroughly before investing any money. I have not used Cohen's services so I cannot vouch for them, sorry

3. Yes once your PR visa is issued you have a timelimit within which you have do your landing in Canada and even after that depending on what type of PR you hold (provincial or federal) there are regulations to be followed to maintain the status of the PR this also you can check on the CIC website I have mentioned in point no.1
