Hi all, I got an email from immigration office to do the RCMP finger print check. I went to the Calgary police office, but they told me they just do the police information check, they just let me fill up the forms and told me they will mail information to me after 4-5 weeks. I am so confusing, is this the correct step, why don't they need the fingerprint? anybody who did fingerprint before, please advise. Thanks a lot.

That doesn't sound right
I recommend going to a fingerprint agency - for a start they'll have the prints sent to RCMP and then the certificate to you in about 10 days (If I remember correctly) and since CIC requests the fingerprint check, it's much more certain way of completing the request

Look for Electronic Civil Fingerprinting on the page.
Go to one of those places with the e-mail from CIC and explain you need your fingerprints taken to get a criminal record check for immigration. Do it electronically - the best way of doing it.
I did my fingerprinting from Commissionaires back in September when an RCMP check was requested by CIC. I live in Vancouver but they also have an office in Calgary.
When I did it through them, they requested I just drop-in. Waited for about ten minutes. A lady asked me to come in and took my fingerprints digitally. I paid for the service, and was told I'll receive the results within ten days in mail. You can also open the results (they're in a sealed envelope) before forwarding them to CIC when you get them, or they can actually send it directly to CIC as well. I did the former i.e. mailing it myself.
