Hi I am a Canadian citizen soon to be married to an American. We have decided to apply while she remains in the States as her mother is ill and she needs to be there or to be able to travel back in case her mom needs her. I'm rather new to this complicated process and am terrified of the horror stories, but love is love..... My question is if she can apply to study in Canada while we await the process and if not are there other ways we can be together while we wait. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are both at extremely flexible points in our lives, save for her mother's health and we would consider any options that would allow us to live together while our sponsorship application is processed.
She can come as a visitor but she would not be able to work or study. She could come as a student but has to apply for a study visa. If she can find someone to hire her that can get a favorable Labor Market Opinion to allow them to hire her, she could work here also.
In that evaluation questionnaire, I used a "period of study longer than 6 months" and that the spouse would NOT be coming with (doesn't apply as her spouse is Canadian).
Your wife would have to get accepted to a Canadian college or university and have the acceptance letter, among other bits of documentation, with her when she enters Canada. That link above has the details.
