I was wondering if you know of any rules restricting a number of people allowed in a specific type of apartment... We are a family of 3 - husband, wife and a 1yr old kid and I was hoping if we will be allowed to just rent a 1-bedroom unit since our kid sleeps with us. I hope someone can enlighten me in this matter. Thanks
This was actually discussed before about a year ago here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/is-there-a-link-between-apartment-requirement-and-of-children-t31365.0.html;msg198493#msg198493
And the link I found then still works and still says:
* no more than two people shall share a bedroom
* parents or couples may share a bedroom
* children under 5 years, either of the same sex or opposite sex may share a bedroom
* children under 18 years of the same sex may share a bedroom
* a child aged 5 to 17 years should not share a bedroom with a child under 5 of the opposite sex
* single adults 18 years and over and any unpaired children require a separate bedroom
So.. if you were to take that literally, you may share a bedroom with your spouse but your 1 yr. old would be a 3rd person and needs a private bedroom. However, I do not think the police is going door to door checking how many bedrooms you have.
I know a few couples that have more than two people in a bedroom.
You should be aware that many larger rental companies will not allow the rental when there is over occupancy.
I have got the same issue.I am planning to land with my family(2+2) in first week of September,if God's will.My younger brother who has also got his PR recently ,also planning to land in the same city with simillar dates as mine,so we are thinking of sharing a 2 bedroom furnished apartment for a month only.So in that case we will be altogether 5 persons,2 kids of less than 18 ,and 3 adults.
So are we allowed by law to live in a 2 bedroom apartment (for one month only).

Hi there.Anyone from BC who rent in Burnaby/Surrey area.I will move thereat in November with family of 4.I need a 2 bedrooms apartment/condo with affordable rent.I need a place near school, grocery, transportation etc plz. Thanks
Yes many landlords prefer to rent to a couple or rent a 2 bedroom to a couple and a child because of noise. If you are moving to a city with a low vacancy rate landlords usually want the least amount of tenants per unit for noise and wear and tear.
