I have been banned to Canada for 5 years under misrepresentation. I want to apply for the visa to Japan. I want to know whether the ban would be a criminal record or not. This is required to be mentioned in the form for japan visa.

No - it's not a criminal record.

If the visa for Japan asks you if you've ever been refused entry, denied a visa or told to leave - then you need to mention the ban.

Thank you for your reply.

Are you sure? I would not like to have another visa refusal .
I was banned for simple misrepresentation, which I am still not sure what could be the misrepresentation.

Misrepresentation doesn't result in criminal charges in Canada.
