Hi all,

I'm currently in Canada on a 2 year IEC visa from Australia with an Open Work Permit. I'm married to a Canadian citizen and have submitted my application for inland Spousal Sponsorship and a new Open Work Permit. Unfortunately my current IEC visa and work permit expire in March 2017. I had a few questions regarding this.

Do I gain implied status (visitor only) while my application is being processed?

Am I actually eligible to receive a new Open Work Permit? I have read that IEC visas cannot be extended, which discounts me from implied status (working), but I wanted to clarify that I'm actually eligible for a new OWP.

Have I potentially applied for a work permit the wrong way? Is there another class I should be applying under? I have been working at the same company full time since May 2015 as a Graphic Designer if that is at all important.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I think we just answered this one, for your partner in the 2016 inland thread here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spousal-sponsorship-inland-applications-2016-timeline-and-updates-t389295.0.html;msg5552779#msg5552779
