When I asked that, the agent said that a lot of background checks go faster, and that sometimes it’s just a few weeks or even a week. It really sucks that it’s so slow to even start, but it’s still possible that it will be done within 12 months.
From your avatar it looks like you’re coming from the US which is supposed to be fast, so that might help?
Ugh when I called they told me the BGC can take anywhere from 1 day to a couple months! The agent also told me "hopefully you will be done in 12 months" like yeah.. thanks!
Btw I think the BGC is short if you've previously applied for a work/study permit.
I called Immigration today and all they would tell me is that they have all the documents (nothing is missing), and that I am still within the 12 month timeline. I guess I don't understand if it takes a few months to complete BGC and they haven't even started mine how I will be done by August 16th (my 12 month mark). I try to put it out of my mind, but that stomach yucky feeling happens. ugh!
My BCC is also not started. I'm also wondering how they are going to get everyone's file done by August. However, if you are coming from the US the background check should be comparatively short so don't worry!
I really wish we didn't have to deal with this wait though it's excruciatingly painful.

They’ve been doing maintenance a lot lately on GCKey, and there’s another notice right now about how it will be down again for maintenance tomorrow. I wonder if people’s files have been moving but the system isn’t always showing it properly. Hoping everyone’s files are moving along — especially anyone who feels like things have just been sitting motionless for a while.
cindyestteacher and anyone else who’s been stuck: go check GCKey, maybe we’ve all moved at once!

It’s funny how different agents have such different responses! Mine was super chill and blasé when I asked last month. All like “oh no I think it will surely be done, BGC can be so fast, lots of time left to complete it well within the 12-months window, why are you even anxious” lol
i have exactly same timeline as you mine is 59 days on gckey
i called agent they are reviewing my criminality when i called them on Friday he was not able give me any answer i said how much it takes to criminality to security he said i cant tell you i said ok how long it will take from security to eligibility or bgc to complete he said i cant say anything i asked ok can you please tell me which month or date etobicoke office is working so i have some idea he said no i cant say about that
i was wondering agent can only read mygc key in depth nothing else. it is very frustrating to wait whole 12 months where your friends who put files very late they are getting things done in 6 months. i ask this to agent he said you dont have to worried till 12 months i said what happen after 12 months he said i cant say anything lol i was wondering he got training for one line only thats "I CANT SAY ANYTHING" or he dont like his job.

It really depends who you speak to, the agent I spoke with could see all the notes left by various agents through the process, she could see where my application was moved and transferred and was able to give me info on BGC progress as well. I think you should try again, it’s like a lottery really with a very small chance to get someone useful enough to help you out. These agents are not immigration officers, more like customer service agents I guess.
It’s tough but at the end of the day, if you have never been arrested and don’t have a criminal record, you don’t have to worry much. They may ask you for additional info on your travels if anything. BGC shouldn’t take too long once it starts, but then the DM really depends on the officers handling your file.

I feel like there is only a handful of August applicants left from this forum to receive their PR.. lucky rabbit and Cindy, are you also on the WhatsApp group?
THANK YOU. I need to hear that. LOL I am the American and my sponsor (Canadian) got married last weekend. I've had immigration out of my mind this whole time with planning the wedding, but now that it is over..that's ALL I can think about. I did upload info about the wedding to the webform last week, though. We were already commonlaw but I thought they might want that info. Good luck, everybody!
Congrats on the marriage! Hope everything went smoothly!
They definitely need to know about any changes to your status, including your marital status, so good on you for being proactive about that! Just a heads up though (you may not like this), because CIC warns about this and from what I've heard about on a few other apps, changing your martial status while your application is being processed could delay your application a bit.
