Has anyone been denied the OWP? If so, what was the reason?
I am a teacher and I thought maybe that was why they were asking me for my medical BEFORE they granted the OWP but if I understand correctly those are two different offices that handle that.

Hi @cindyestteacher !

We are all new in this process, and until now nobody had OWP refusal since only some of us were already granted with OWP.
PR and OWP are different applications and are processed separately.

I guess the Medical Request you have got is related to your PR app. right?

In general, they ask meds for OWP only if you intend to work in health services, child care and Primary and Secondary Education. If this is your case, you might receive an specific medical request later, I don't know if there is extra exams for this case, or if they will use the exams that they asked for PR app.

You should run a quick search in other forums dedicated to the subject to clarify this.

According to your timeline you should have an update for your OWP app end November/beginning December.

Application for PR & OWP rec: 02 Aug 18
AOR: 30 Aug 18
Medical Request: 30th Oct 18
Medical completed: 2nd Nov 18
Work Permit Approved: 8th Nov 18

AOR: Sept 5, 2018 (?) - The application was successfully linked to GCKey and ECAS shows the application in in-process, but no e-mail yet.

@JD10-How did you find out your OWP was approved? I cannot seem to get it to link to my GCKey. I've used our app #, my UCI, everything..I am SO HAPPY for you!

I noticed some of you called CIC to ask what OWP apps they were working on. Is this the # you call? 888-242-2100 and, if so, do you remember the numbers you press after that? It didnt' seem like they gave any choices that I needed last time I tried. Thank you for your time.

Yep - I tried calling around 8:15am EST (Toronto). I don't need to call them anymore though because we did receive the AOR email.

Yes, I heard about a few applications denied.

Basically, the common reasons are not satisfying IRCC that you are married or common-law of your sponsor; people who were out of status when submitted the app; or your job offer must to be subject of an economic effect determination.

Anyone know how long it takes for cic to receive medicals? Just did exam yesterday. Does the status update to medical passed as soon as they get it or is there some in-between status where they say the results are submitted?

I did mine on Nov 8, received on 11 and passed medical on 18. Hope it helps!

I logged in that day it was approved. A follow-up email was sent out several days later noting a change to the account. The OWP is valid for 2 years from the day it was approved.

Hi @pr2018_ct !

It depends on how quick the lab exam will be ready, the clinic and etc. I received med request 31st Oct.; Meds done 1st Nov.; and it took 19 days to update status. I asked a copy of my medical dossier and I saw that the x-rays were signed 8 days after and the whole dossier was signed 10 days after....after that CIC took 9 days to review the results and change status.

Nov 21 OWP confirmation


I’m really excited cause today I got the confirmation that my OWP was accepted
Yaaay
And tomorrow I’m going to take my medical tests.
