Information regarding the bank account in canada for student

Hello to all. I hope all are doing well. I want to know can we open bank account in canada without having study permit? My brother will open my account to deposit money for living expenses in my account but it is possible to open it without study permit? Also account will open normally like the other account opens in the bank means will they give us cheque book in case we have to withdraw that money. Please reply. Thank you

It can't be done unless you have a valid status in Canada.

What do mean your brother will open your account? That would be much more difficult or impossible compared to opening it yourself, you cant just open accounts in other peoples names..

As to if you can open without study permit there are people in this forum who have managed to open one even on visitor visa, it all depends on type of account, bank and branch.

I suggest you come with enough cash for a couple month, open your own account then your brother can do any deposit after that.

And it's not a requirement to show funds in Canadian account so tell your brother to transfer the funds to your father or mothers account in Pakistan so apply with that new bank statement. Because the solution you are seeking can't be done without a valid study permit and SIN number in Canada, both of which are required to open a bank account in Canada for students.

He cant open account in someone elses name just think about it, it would be terrible if everyone could do that.

This is also not a good solution to your issue, if your brother is your sponsor he can provide his financial documents and a letter explaining his support.
