I came here looking for information and hopefully will get some. I found a similar thread from 2012 asking about contractor eligibility but no-one answered.
I have a degree from Carleton U, got my PGWP and now I am currently a contractor (NOC 2175) working for a start-up company in Ottawa for at least 3 months and I was wondering whether independent contractor are eligible to apply for CEC?
How does the government know that I am working? And how many hours I am working per week?
If they don't, what proof do I need? and where can I get that?
Thank you,
Shaffinaaz
PS: More info about me can be provided upon request.
Hello all,

If you are self-employed (independent contractor), then the experience does not count under the CEC program. See the application instructions -

The ONLY possibility for CEC is if you are functionally in an employer-employee relationship (regardless of payment arrangements), as determined by the CRA. See pp. 10-12 of the OP 25A- Determining an applicant's employment status.
Don't want to give false hope, though - I would be surprised if you could even get a CRA ruling before the end of the year, let alone one that goes in your favour.
just saw this thread and now I have some doubts on my CEC application.
initially when I started I was working as a contractor(registered as Sole Proprietor.) for 6 months. But i was still on a payroll(with my contracting employer) working for 8 hours a day, drawing a biweekly paycheck. I also have an experience letter from the employer.
I hope I am eligible for CEC.
