Hi,
I sponsored my wife (in canada application) in July 2008. The application was sent over to the CIC Mississauga office in Jan.22, 2009. The website says 32 days processing time, and when I call the call centre, they say 14 months?!! Can anyone help out and provide some guidance or next steps as to what may be happening? I have been reading other posts where some people got their letter of confirmation, but I only received a letter stating that "your case has been transferred over the mississauga office", nothing more.
Is there any way to expedite the process as well? Perhaps visit the office, send them a fax, or talk to a local MP? Any help, advice would be great!
Ahh, the sponsorship part of the application takes 32 days. Would be too good to be true if that was all. This is just to get you approved as a sponsor. The time for first stage approval and work permit if you applied for one is 6 months, you can find that here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#perm_res and eventually after 14 months, your wife should get PR. This is the time it normally takes. I seriously doubt you can do anything to speed it up. Wouldn't be fair towards everybody else who is also waiting.
If your wife is currently on a visit visa or visa exempt, you have to make sure you send for a visit visa extension before it expires. Include all the info for the PR so they know to link it together. If you didn't apply for an open work permit for her but would like to do that too, you can send that in at the same time and make sure you write on it that you request the work permit when her PR application gets first stage approval because she will not qualify for a work permit sooner.
It is not adviced to leave Canada while the application is in process since if she was refused entry for whatever reason, the application and all the waiting goes out the window.

If the application was transferred to Mississauga without Approval in Principle, then there is some doubts about the application and you will be waiting in the queue for an interview. If it was sent with AIP then you are waiting for a landing interview. So did you wife received AIP or not? That is the question.
No she did not. The application states that it is "in process" when I log on the GIC website with my client ID#. Any idea? When you say doubts, can you elaborate?
thanks.
They may have doubts about your application, something missing or they are not convinced that your application is real. If it's sitting in the Missisauga local office, you will have to ask them there what you can except in terms of processing time.
