It is too soon to contact your MP. New Delhi asks for the passport very early on in processing, so it does not mean they are about to issue the visa, like it would in other offices. You should wait to contact the MP until more than the average time has been reached. New Delhi takes 6 months to process 80% of spousal PR applications, so you are well within the timeline.
From my friend who works on Parliament Hill and has experience with the immigration sector- Your MP can at the very least inquire about your status. They are able to do it even if application is within normal processing times. However, a lot of MP's either are inexperienced with this or are "lazy" to take on such requests. So, you are able to ask and they *should* be able to facilitate at least a status check. It's whether they want to or not, really. Also, your application will not go "to the end of the pile", so to speak. It falls back in que accordingly. Hope this information helps!

I agree with Canadianwoman...I really think you should wait before contacting you MP
thanks canadianwoman, muffy1 and pinder123 for your replies! yes contacting MP doesnt seem to delay your case in any way which is good. yes i agree it is a good idea to wait a little longer...most people contact MP within 1.5-2 months which i think i should do also. by then, they must have done some work on my case, so there would be some information to request im pretty sure. 6 months is a VERY long time (as we are together waiting in India, and i am suffering with the boiling summer weather) and my processing for sponsorship approval was already above and beyond normal processing time (96 days). i just want to confirm about any interview or additional document request or anything else. for many people, contacting MP was the only way they found out any information about their case after it reached ND.
thanks for your help and good luck to all of you
