And he didn’t work for astronomy, he just studied it while he was in Vancouver. The answer was missionary because he worked for a local faith group while he was in Mexico
I got confused with this because while it did say that he stayed with missionaries, his work part didn't make a lot of sense to me and next line was 'after this brief period of military service he....' So I went with the astronomy one which the next para mentioned that he studied while in Vancouver (I think).
