IEC Approved but I want to visit before starting my work visa...

Hey, I'm looking for some help with a predicament I have found myself in.

I have fortunately been approved for the IEC 2 year work visa but I don't plan on moving to Canada until 2020, My issue is, my girlfriend lives in Canada and I wanted to visit her in September for a 2-week vacation.

Do you think its possible that I can go and enter on a tourist visa instead of starting my 2 year work visa if I explain all this to the immigration officer upon arrival?
It would be a shame to trigger the 2-year count down before I plan on moving there.

Any help would be appreciated.
