Hello,

I am a Vietnamese and have come to Canada to study and eventually immigrate and settle. I have met and married a Canadian Citizen, and would now like to bring my child over from Vietnam, who was from a previous marriage that ended in divorce. I was granted sole custody in the divorce papers. Do I need authorization from my Ex Husband to bring my child to Canada to live here with me? The government of Canada website statement on it is not clear. If I have sole custody and the documents to prove it, is that enough, or would I still need my ex husband's authorizationg?

Not if you have sole custody. Your husband will have to sponsor you and your child.

okay, so to travel I would just need the usual, his passport and a visa and such as well as my visa. Good. I have already applied for PR for myself and specified in the document that my son would come later. Can you tell me how I add him to the application or start the new application for him? If it is my husband sponsoring him, is it the form for a dependant child for him or do I fill it out?

If your PR application is in process, just request that your child be changed to accompanying.
