Hello everyone!
I need some advice on how to do this. My boyfriend of 2 years (Canadian citizen) and I plan to marry and have him sponser me for PR. We were first planning on taking the inland route, however after reading numerous posts about how long it takes we changed our minds and decided to do outland while I'm in Canada.

Our plan was for him to fly down to me (in Virginia, USA) and we go on a 'road trip' back to his home in Saskatchewan using my car, get married, and pretty much wait until the PR process is finished.
Just to clarify things: I'm NOT going to load up my car with everything I own. I'm only bringing the basic things for a long 'vacation'. He is also going to have a return flight so USA customs won't hassle him about a one way flight, even though we're going to be driving back.

Is this a good plan?
I'm just worried (seeing as how we're driving in) that they won't believe I'm going to go back to Virginia when my time is up. And it would crush me to be forced to turn around because they denied entry to me, and not to mention having to drive back all the way to the east coast!

Also, would I be able to extend my stay and apply for a work permit while waiting or is that just reserved for inland applicants?

I would love to get some advice or suggestions from anyone who can help!

Thank you everyone!

I would suggest that you should try crossing the border in the east.
You could extend your visa when in Canada, but getting a work permit as a visitor (or outland) is not likely.

Ah, darn. Thank you for the speedy reply though!
Any reason why we should try crossing in the east? And more specificly, where?

Mainly in response to your comment "t would crush me to be forced to turn around because they denied entry to me, and not to mention having to drive back all the way to the east coast".

If you were trying to cross in the east and were refused the distance back home would be shorter.
Richmond to Buffalo is only 500 miles.

Plan for the worst and you may be pleasantly surprised :)

My (Canadian) boyfriend (at the time, now we are married) came to visit me in the US on a one-way plane ticket and then we drove in my car back to Canada. He did not encounter any problems getting into the US (though I would say that could have been a real possibility and I was worried this would be a problem), and I had no problems getting into Canada with a "loaded up" car. But I came in on a 10 month work permit, so that is why it was smooth for me even though I had a lot of stuff.

@Baloo: You have to forgive me, I'm a bit slow in the morning lol! Very good point.

@OCSunshine: Good to hear from others who've been in similar situations!

Any other advice from people would be wonderful, so please share :)
