Hello to all! Me and my husband has been living in the Philippines for quite some time now and on November 2015 we were able to enter Canada. My husband who has been a resident for a good 8 years is with me and he is about to renew his PR Card. Can he renew it from here? He does have a valid Canadian address and he would like to explore his options. We are planning to go back to Canada by the end of this year. I read on here that one can renew his residency outside of Canada but it will require that he gets his PR Card in person if approved. His PR Card is a couple of months shy from expiring.

As he lives abroad, there is a higher chance that they would ask him to pick it up in person. They give 6 months to pick up the card; if it's not picked up, they destroy it and he has to apply again. Second time around, the scrutiny of his app will be much higher and will most likely take longer.
He can wait to apply for the card and just apply for a PRTD to return to Canada at the end of the year.
