No specific limit, apart from the obvious of not being on welfare etc. The eligibility criteria are documented in the application guide.

Some other questions that might impact some of your options for spousal sponsorship:
Are you a Canadian citizen or a Canadian PR?
What passport does your spouse hold? Is your spouse from a visa-exempt country?
Are you perhaps looking to see if your spouse might visit you in Canada during the sponsorship?
Are you currently living in Canada?
Does your spouse have minor children from a previous relationship?
