I am adding spouse to my application and CPP-Ottawa office has asked me to pay the processing fees to Detroit. I checked the detroit site and they only accept bank drafts or certified cheques from Canada or U.S banks. I have already sent them an enquiry on alternatives.
I am sure someone must have faced this situation earlier? Any suggestions anyone? Thanks in Advance.
Ok, this is not 100% accurate. They only accept drafts or checks DRAWN ON a bank located in the US (USD) or Canada (CAD).
This is not the same thing as saying the check has to be issued by a bank located in the US or Canada.
You don't say what country you are currently in, but you can go to any large international bank (e.g. Standard Chartered) and request a draft/certified check in USD drawn on a US bank. The bank will have an agreement with a US bank (e.g. Citibank) to clear the checks for them in the USA - a draft/check that is DRAWN ON a US bank will have both the name of the issuing bank (in this example, Standard Chartered) AND the US bank from which it will be drawn (in this example, Citibank).
Of course, depending on where you are, you might also be able to find an international branch of a US or Canadian bank...
