I got the LOA from Sharjah Traffic and Licensing department today . It's in Arabic and they told me that I need to get it legally translated to English and then go to the Ministry of foreign affairs to get that attested.
1. Will this be accepted in Ottawa?
2. My LOA does not specifically mention how many years of driving experience I have, but it does mention the issue date which is in 2005 so its obvious that I have 7 years of experience till date . That should be fine , right??
3. Was just wondering, does RTA give LOA to licenses issued in emirates other than Dubai, would you have any idea??( It would just be easier to get an English copy).
4. I will be visiting Canada for my landing formalities by the end of the month, and would stay for 18 days and go back in 6 months or so , if I am not able to get my G2 license within this period, could I continue when I return or it's wise to do it at the time of final landing itself? What do you suggest ?

1. It's supposed to be, but few had issues with the UAE translated copy & had to get it once again done here thru a Canadian Translator.
2. That's fine.
3. No, it's Emirate specific.
4. U can, continue after a break, anytime.
Posted this query sometime back but still waiting for reply. It would be great if you could throw some light...

Hi,
I have the G1 license and now planning to take some driving lessons to appear for my road test. I want to know how beneficial is the MTO certified driving course (Defensive Driving Course) in lowering the Insurance cost?
Although @ Cur-Rozen has mentioned above that it can reduce the premium by about 15% but i would like to have some info on this like is 15% standard or it depends on the Insurance company and do all insurance companies honor the certificate?

Yes, it does get u a marginal discount in the 1st yr... but from the 2nd - kaput! The insurers' ensure that u payback whatever discount u obtained the previous yr. The bottomline is - it doesn't make much of a difference... we will be fleeced here... auto insurance is a big ripoff, especially in Ontario.
