Dear Captain,
With your advice & hint I got my DL extract which gives history of my DL from the date of issue.
Due to time change address factor I may not get my IDP. With my original DL and Extract only will I get thru & qualify as I have 12 years of LMV experience?
Without IDP I may not be able to drive for 2 months that's all. I'll concentrate on getting Canada license.

No SIN required. I took my old UK licence, my passport and proof of my address (I think I took my bank statement, or maybe it was my rental agreement) to get my Alberta licence
As long as you have been driving in the UK for more than 2 years you can just do a straight exchange, a quick eye test, a photo & a signature and it's about $60 from what I remember. So easy.
If you've been driving less than 2 years you will need to do the test, well you do in Stony Plain anyway, other registries may be different.
I m Indian revising in uk since 6 year , got full uk licence since 5 year
(driving since week I came here - first year drive in IDP. ) my insurance was 1100£ in first year , now it's just £345 yearly with 5 year NCB on it (Audi A4 2004)
My wife paying £ 660 and got 3 year old uk full licence ( Mini 2006)
(she got too 4,year protected NCB as she was second driver from first day on my policy so insurance company give her 1 year NCB when she got her full uk licence and own car)
Any idea how much our insurance will be in Canada for similar car once we switch our uk licence to BC licence
I believe that the rules are that you are only allowed one license but some people I know have been able to keep theirs. I believe it depends on the person you are dealing with and if they are having a good day if they let you keep it or not.
I had to give up my old license to get one in AB. I knew people who were told that their foreign license would be mailed to the driving license authority in their homeland where they would be able to collect it again if they moved back but as they were going back, they checked on this and found that the licenses had not been mailed. Then they checked if they were being kept in AB somewhere and if they could do a switch but they were told no. Once AB takes your old license, it doesn't come back to you.
Still, if you go back to your homeland and say you need your license again, they would normally have it on record and it would not be a big deal to get it re-issued.
Not 100% sure , please correct me if I m wrong /
If I decide to give Driving test showing my UK licence experience (I mean not surrender or exchange my UK dl) then I can keep both DL as I didn't getting Canada one in place of UK inspite I am getting Ca DL after giving driving exam .
Though I don't intend to return Uk but still I don't wanna give my DL as I did hard work to get it plus it's is only 1 UK identity document we got .
If you drove 1 year in UK on IDP within last 3 year. And then got UK licence last year then you can provide 2 year experience in last 3 year.
Not sure if something like that work , but I know one friends wife who come to Uk in 2010 and drove car in IDP or 11 month then got his uk licence 8 month ago, they planning to move Ca in December and hoping she can exchange her DL showing combined driving history over 2 year in UK.
Got all insurance paper and car registration docs for support .
I'm planning to land in Edmonton in August 2012; I will then have 4 months left on my UK driving licence to complete 2 years (i.e. in December 2012). I understand I can drive in Alberta up to 1 year on an IDP. In this case, can I wait till December to complete 2 years on my UK licence to exchange and get a Class 5 Albertan full driving licence?
In fact, it seems Alberta won't consider any licences with less than 24 months experience on it for an exchange.
