How to become PR

Hi,

I just want to ask regarding my husband's situation, he obtained a job offer to work in New Brunswick as cook and right now waiting for Work Permit approval. My question is, what will be the procedure to apply for PR after he landed in Canada? How long does he need to be in Canada before he can apply for PR?
These are his qualifications:
* Age : 36
* Education: Bachelor in Banking Finance
* Current Job: Line Cook (12 yrs experience in Kuwait)
* With positive LMIA (dual intent)
* Job Offer in New Brunswick (full time permanent for 2 yrs)
* IELTS (L = 6.5; R = 6; W = 5.5; S = 5)

IELTS is very low for speaking and Writing. Hope he gets work permit approved.

Is there a possibility that his Application can't be approved because of low IELTS? The immigration consultant told us that minimum of 5 per category is enough to obtain a permit..

Yes a minimum of 5 can secure him a PR. No worries at all.

That is bad advice. You should be trying to get at least a 6 in each category. Anything less than that will put any application at risk..

Yes there is a big possibility it can be refused for those scores alone. I would sack your immigration consultant, as that is bad advice.

Thanks for the info, never expected that one though, he should have taken a review class prior to taking the exam, but anyway, application has been submitted already, just hoping for the best result..

You are thinking solely of skilled workers and Express Entry. Cooks have lower language requirement thresholds. As mentioned above, like AIPP, other PR programs have different language requirements.

Ok, I didn't realize that. Don't see why there should be a lower threshold, but there you go. Apologies to the OP.

You should explore Atlantic Immigration Pilot if he's going to New Brunswick. The language requirement is as low as CLB level 4 for intermediate skill workers and the PR/workpermit is processed in less than 6/1 months as the whole process is expedited.

Thank you for the reply, I have checked the NB AIPP, it mentioned there that it is employer driven. I tried to look at the list of designated employers joining in this program but the employer who hired my husband is not included in this list. Does it mean that only those who got job offer from these registered companies who joined in this program can apply for AIPP?

Looks like it. He may be able to apply through NB PNP though. I’m not familiar myself so you may have to check or join the PNP forum of this website.
