I'm currently gathering all the documents to sponsor my wife and my 11 year old step son. Part of this involves maintaining their legal status through a visitor record (they are US citizens), and we have my wife's visitor record application filled out, but for my step son we're a bit more confused as the questions are tailored more towards an adult. There's also no questions about who his parents are or anything like that which seems like an oversight on their part.
Won't the officer find it strange that there's an extension application for such a child? Should we attach our IDs, birth/marriage certificates and other documents to show he's our son? I was going to attach a letter of explanation with the proof of means of support so it can be explained there, but in terms of other concrete documentation. We're a bit confused on how to go about it as there is no information online about extending the stay of a dependent child.
We were also curious, if my wife gets a OWP, does that allow our son to stay by extension since he is 11? She is legally his Teacher as he is homeschooled and she has documentation from Illinois to show this.
