Hello everyone. I could really use some help. My husband and I were married eight years ago in Canada. I was living with him there and had to return to the USA. Ive always had a criminal record which didn't prevent entry. But I now have two dui convictions and have been told I need trpsince it hasn't been five years since the end of my involvement with the court here. Is it possible to ever be with my husband again? We are still very much in love but the border has prevented us from really being together. Its been seven years since ive seen him. This can't be impossible. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.
I think it's fair to say that YOU have prevented you from returning to Canada, not the border, because of your two DUI convictions. Don't blame Canada for taking this more seriously than the U.S. system does.
Perhaps he should consider immigrating to The U.S.?

Not sure why you haven't seen your husband in 7 years. Does he have some criminal conviction too that prevents him from visiting the US? Why do you not sponsor him for a green card?
Here's a wacky suggestion (if he lives near the Peach Arch border crossing in BC...which is unlikely):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Arch_Park
Recreational activities include walking and picnicking as well as a playground for children. Visitors are free to explore the entire park on both sides of the actual physical border, but should not cross the boundary of the park to enter the adjacent country without being cleared to enter by the respective customs authority.
You could at least see each other, standing at the border.
Good luck! It sounds like a very difficult place to be for you both.
Thank you all so much. It has been very difficult for sure fir both of us. But we have never given up on each other. The choices we made are definitely hurting us now. But I just hope that cic will see that were not the same now and give us a chance. If anyone else has been in a similar situation with a criminal record and willing to work hard and proove themselves. Hopefully that will be worth more than the mistakes that were made along the way.
Can your husband not apply for a pardon? I believe he will then need some paperwork from the American consulate even after the pardon but worth looking into.
