I am a PR living in Canada and spouse from China but live in US and currently in Canada
Your application timeline is similar to mine. Our application was received June 12th. the hiccup was the file transferred to Mississauga VO first and stayed there for 4 weeks. it did not get transfer to HKVO until the bio and medical is done and approved.
Good luck with that !
The first part can go fast and then you wait.
If your application gets transferred to HKVO expect more wait and hopefully not get caught up with the BGC.
Be prepared for many ' hiccups ' especially if your spouse has traveled or lived in other country's.
I wouldn't expect the PPR too soon but if you receive it prior to 12 months then everything is good.

I do expect PPR soon as she has been through PR application and BGC before and not a single issue when she received her PR, she could not land at that point and had to withdraw/renounce. now sponsoring just a wash rinse repeat.
We were not expecting it got sent to HKVO as she has not been back to China the last 10 years and only travel between US and Canada.

Does anyone know if the physical panel in HK works with IRCC and uses eMedical service? Just wondering if the 4 photos are needed if the medical exam is done in HK. Thanks!

call the designated panel physician to find out. that is the only way to know. if they support emedical system then dont need to bring any printed photos. They will take the photo there while undergoing the medical and fill out the form and you will get a emedical report after it is completed. Once result is out and completed with X-ray. emedical system will automatically upload the result to IRCC.
Make sure bring the medical request instruction letter IMM1017 or at least provide the IME no. to book the medical exam appointment.
For your reference, you will see most of applications processed in Mississauga will get PPR within 5-6 month. and most of them are Indian nationals. the fastest I have seen is less than 3 month.
I tend not to look at it often but it will give you a good idea.

Not all, but a good portion of desi are getting a fast path. they still send a lot of them to NDVO and those are pretty similar to HKVO processing time.
with out security screening it is a good 7-8 month at least.
I have no news from Hong Kong visa office since an email said transferred to Hong Kong on Oct 24 (forwarded email on Oct 9, started processing in ECAS line 2 on Oct 15)
As I know some Hong Kong people don't like people from mainland of China and lots of aggressive protesting activities are still going on. Will they bring any issues to the application?
Don't know when I will receive the pre-arrival letter. Sad

File transfer to HK is a step in the right direction.
Next step ....Document request
Next step .....Interview ?
Next step ....Pre-arrival letter
Next step ....PPR

If you are from mainland and holds a Chinese passport, you can expect your background check to last a little longer, that's the general pattern I've seen so far. And I wouldn't worry too much about the protect, I don't think the police brutality in Hong Kong will affect your application

Expecting unexpected is the golden rule here. If the case is simple enough, normally it will be processed in Mississauga VO without being transferred to HKVO. Once it is in HKVO, it normally means there is going to be some sort of security check. I hope it won't be security screen in your case.
