I know for a fact and from a inside source that they hire casuals so they don't have to pay them benefits.

They hire students for work on applications too.

Perhaps if they weren't so strictly unionized they wouldn't have to resort to casuals to afford new hires.

That's good info to know though, because it definitely punches a few holes in the story I was told regarding "how they can't simply hire more people because the workers are so highly skilled they're irreplaceable".

The truth is that they're not allowed to hire non-union employees for durations greater than 90 days.
