Hi, I'm new here.
I'm being sponsored by my common law girlfriend, and on the checklist, it suggests two letters of statutory declaration from two people who can confirm we have lived together in a common law relationship for over a year.
Now, we assume we can get friends and family to write these letters, as they know us best, but do the declarations need to be co-signed by a commissioner of oaths, like the common law union form needed to be, or is their own signature fine?
Thanks
Dave
Welcome. Some people here claim to have succeeded without any letters being signed by a commissioner of oaths, even sending nothing but email printouts, but I wouldn't risk that, because it seems to be required. Get two declarations witnessed by a commissioner of oaths and you can also get other letters of support which are just signed by the writers. I think it looks better if you can get one person who know you first and one who knew you girlfriend first, if that's possible.
I concur with BeShoo. Get at least 2 notarized or signed by a commissioner. They are fairly easy to find and not costly. You can submit other un-notarized ones if you want.
