Hey there i just landed in alberta yesterday but the officers processing the visa etc gave me no info at all on what to do about gaining healthcare? Am i covered right away here? Where do i apply in Calgary?
In england things like birth control were covered under our healthcare so didnt cost anything, is that the same in Alberta?
You have to go to a registry agent to apply. You can find the locations at http://www.health.alberta.ca/health-care-insurance-plan.html You will be covered right away.
Medications are not covered under Alberta Health but prices are regulated so it is not like they can just charge you whatever they want. Many employers offer supplementary insurance which will cover some percentage of your medication costs as well as dental etc.
