Two reasons.... 1) more money for Cuba and 2) more money for Cuba......

Lol. Exactly!!!

Try the uncle Bens, but from my experience, the Cubans hate hate hate any pre packed rice.
Do not buy minute rice, or parboiled. The closest thing to the Cuban rice here is basmati rice.
But a $15 rice cooker. I find they do well with our other types of food as long as they have rice that reminds them of home!!!

I've been in the Cuban community for 12 years and my best friend is married to a Cuban, and I've spent a lot of time here with him and his family so I've been able to lean a lot about what helps them feel at home here and good rice is one of them!
;-)

Oh ya I have long grain regular rice too that I cook with! But I`ve certainly cooked uncle bens on lazy days too!! I have a rice cooker and use it to make rice and beans like his mom!! :D she made me do it at their house before! lol

I personally like the packages rices and they are great in a pinch. Brought it down to Cuba with me last time to try and nobody ate it, just me lol.

I've mastered the congris! Lol

Yes already had the discussion with Yoani about my love of minute rice and unce ben's flavoured.....albeit alot of it is the convenience...but told him when he got here we would go and buy a rice cooker and he could pick it out so he can't say it is not good...LOL....and he does so love his rice!!!

When I told my husband that he would sometimes have to make dinner, he was reluctant but agreed (I'll have to see it to believe it.. lol), so I told him, we can just buy already marinated chicken or something and rice with the flavoring inside (think uncle bens orange thingies) so all he has to do is cook it and not prepare it, and his response was "THAT"S NOT COOKING!" lol

He also is convinced that the way I make mashed potatoes, with cheese and butter and milk and salt and pepper, and garlic, is not really potatoes! because there's too many other things in it! hahaha

Oh, Cuban men.....
Ok now THIS is funny! Imagine....flavor and yumminess in our potatos! I am actually lucky b/c my husband LOVES to cook and he is open to new flavors. But it was like pulling teeth for us to get his family to try stuff with garlic and flavors in it! And we could not even get his SIL to try spagetti sauce with garlic meatballs, a lil bit of chili peppers, green peppers and onions.
