Thanks for the info! But I was wondering since I already have put in my application, do I need to wait now until the VO tells me to do the exam or just go ahead and do it now?
I would do it soon Kinka!! They may call you any day looking for that info.... it expires after a year so having done I later is good but I wouldn't wait much longer!!! incomplete application may slow you down in the LONG RUN... but I think you can totally get going and slide it in!
Some of you may have seen a thread I started in September under Family Class sponsorship about PhD research I'm doing on experiences of the Family Class application process that includes an anonymous online survey for people who are currently going through or recently finished the process. My goal is that my results can be used for advocacy to make improvements to the system for people who want to sponsor family members in the future.
I'm still looking for lots more people to respond to the survey as the more people respond the stronger the results will be. In particular I’m looking for people who are not well-represented in the data I have already. Unfortunately I haven't heard from many people yet who are sponsoring family members from the various Caribbean countries so that's why I'm posting in this thread.
So if any of you are interested in telling me about your experiences with and recommendations for the sponsorship process I'd like to invite you to go to https://survey.ryerson.ca:443/s?s=4526 .
On the first page you'll find more information about the survey, and at the bottom of that page there is a link to click on to start the survey. The survey can be done in English or French. The moderators of this forum have given me permission to post about the survey.
Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to read this and good luck with your applications!
YHYY you can't go there with an one way ticket. They don't check in Cuba but they won't allow you to leave Canada without a return ticket or a ticket to another destination. I know that from a personal experience when I flew from Panama city to Havana. After I bought the Havana Toronto ticket everything was ok.
I've never contacted an mp and I'm thinking of doing so but I don't know if it's worth doing it now or if I should wait one more month until I hit the 10 months mark..

I would advise you to contact them directly yourself. Using an MP as many have indicated doesnt provide an additional help nor access to anything. I would just email the embassy now and hope they respond. As many (myself included) have experienced it is hit or miss whether Havana responds (and that includes to Lawyers and MP's as well) so just go ahead and do it. If they dont respond to your inquiry and then 10 months elapses, I would email again with a much firmer tone as they now are "supposed" to provide an update as per CIC guidelines.

It's just corporate policy. You can buy one-way tickets to Cuba online with Air Canada/Rouge, WestJet, Air Transit, or Cubana. For SunWing, they price to Cuba based on there-and-back.

I always fly one way from Canada (Toronto to Havana or Varadero) and vice versa. I usually fly with Westjet when I leave from Varadero and I always fly back to Air Canada.
UPDATE----My husband had his interview two weeks ago today so my MP emailed Havana today and recieved an email back quickly. The supervision of immigration told my MP that our file is in line for can officer to review it. We had to submutcaxfew things they asked for. He said we will find out their decision by the end of the month. My file has been in Havana for almost one year so i know it is hard. It looks like they are going right to the times stated on the website. Well at least to the interview anyway.
