Gift deed for POF? or only letter

Hello,

For all those who have taken POF amount as gift from parents, please help with this (from India)

My mother gifted me funds about $9.5K towards POF amount for Canada EE PR. Do I NEED to make a Gift deed ? or should I just get a letter from my mother signed, stating its a gift?

I ask because I was told, If I make a gift deed and register I have to pay about 3% Tax (India)?. If you have any experience with gift deed and POF please advice on this issue.
