this post was very practical to many of us, i assume so i really appreciate.just a few question: i just got my COPR today. i was wondering when can i request my passport?did you request before receiving your actual PR?
and i think you mentioned you withdrew your refugee claim, if so it means you are not protected person anymore?
i just want to get my passport back and IRCC, or whatever it is , they seized my passports.
and can you please tell me where did you send the letter?im also in toronto so i think i need to send the request to the same address.

I wrote a mail through web form on IRCC asking where was my passport. After two weeks, they responded to me. They told me it was supposed to get it when I receive my PR card, but if I wanted it before, I will have to contact the office that had my passport. In my case, they told me that my passport was on 6900 Airport road. I went directly to that office and brought the CopR document, driver's license and a formal letter that said: I would like to get my passport back because I already got a permanent residence. I did not give any explanation, but it is up to you to write the reason you want it back.

They accepted my letter without a problem. Two days after they called me to pick up my passport. I went there, waited for a while, signed a form they gave me and that is all. I got my passport back. There were no questions nor issues with that requeriment.

so apparently, i cant stay no more than 20 days in turkey with my canadian travel document.i have to be there for almost 40days during summer for two weddings.therefore i need to collect my passport and since its already expired, i need to change it so i need it immediately( i have to send it by mail to Washington in order to renew it).i just received my COPR, what is the fastest way to collect my passport.im in toronto and i claimed my case in toronoto.

I don't want to be negative for any one but i went to Etobicoke office today ,i surprised they can't send our original identity by mail cause Mr officer should give us request to sign ,realy i fight with the security he just give nothing reply ,buy the way they are working with few employees there ,

Do you mean renew your home country passport from which you claimed asylum? If so, you really don't want to do that. This is considered to be reavailement which can result in refusal when you apply for citizenship and the loss of your PR status.

yes im talking about my hme country passport.if you say so, whats the reason of returning my passport? why dont they just keep it for themselves? i know i cant return to my back home country, which i dont have such intentions,but if they return my passport, what am i suppose to it when its expired? i just need it for a travel more than 20 days in turkey,since i cant stay more than 20 days with the travel document.so you say i cant mail my passport to Washington to renew it?it would cause me some troubles?

please, dont try it . you could loose your status in canada with that action. they gave you back your passport to keep it because its your property. check the below links to educate yourself. good luck.

Its not the question of keeping it or why they return it, it is your property. However renewing your passport is considered as One of the reason for cessation of your protected status. Read 108(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, “crystal clear”

im not a lawyer but if you look at the statistics from IRB website, all application for cessations by Minister were ALLOWED. So its not something you take it lightly, but its up to you to make that call.

Using your home passport for anything could be considered as reavailment. Some people like to collect their previous passports for their personal records. Some have previous visas in their passports. Given covid there really shouldn't be any weddings allowed except perhaps weddings for immediate family. Unless you want to risk your status in Canada you need to find another option like only attending one wedding. Do you have 5-6 weeks of holiday time from work?

Hello Everyone, if you have your COPR already and you want to get your Passport/Documents back. for GTA , visit CBSA Mississauga office and ask for your documents . it is very easy and fast . just go with one recognized ID card (Drivers License or Medical etc.). I got my documents within one hour today.

CBSA seized my documents in Montreal and they transferred them to Toronto because I chose Toronto as my address.
