Hello, I am a Canadian Citizen by birth, I sponsored my husband and we will be landing in a week (I have been living outside of Canada with him for more than a year.) We are confused about the B4 Form.
If I am bringing gifts home to my family from my husband's country and it is in my suitcase do I have to fill out a B4 Form? Seeing as I am technically not an Immigrant.
All the is in my husband's suitcase are clothes he owns from his country and 2 pairs of shoes.
In my suitcase is less than $80 worth of souvenirs, clothes, and shoes I owned previously and in my carry on 3 pieces of jewelry and my laptop which is from Canada.
Is it even necessary to fill this form? And I was wondering about our wedding bands and my engagement ring if I am wearing them on me physically do I need to declare them too?
Thanks for any help, Just confused because I am landing with my husband who is the PR and I am not sure if my luggage will count ?
im in the exact same position as you. have you landed in canada. how was your experience?

We landed on Sept. 13th and we just made our own B4 form listing all of the things in our suitcases and the values.
We were only bringing 2 suitcases and carry on. Nothing coming after us at a later date.
We landed first in Toronto airport, nobody even asked us if we had a b4 form. They gave us a small declaration card all it asks is the value of everything in your suitcase. I believe as long as it is under $800 you won't be taxed on it. Then they asked if we had any items coming to Canada at another date. If you do you have to tell them then and there. If you don't and your items arrive you will be taxed on them.
I believe as long as you are not bringing anything major or shipping other items at a later date the b4 form is useless. There are enough papers to fill so I wouldn't worry about the b4 form if you are bringing simple things home.
what about your jewellery that you were wearing at the time?

I have a query. The website says you need to declare funds over $10,000. What if you do declare them do you get taxed on it? The funds are wedding gifts that I plan to carry.
You don't get taxed on funds, only on goods brought in later on which you did not declare at your initial landing.
Question regarding the form. Does it have to be completed on a pc or can you write everything on it by hand?
Also, if my wife is coming from India to Canada, under country of origin it would be INDIA and country of export would be CANADA correct?
thanks in advance
I just found this link and thought it may be helpful as all I have found before was the main B4 Form. This is a form that is a full page that you can use to list all goods. All you need to do is make several copies (as many as you need.

I have a few questions regarding the B4 form at first landing - can I enlist electrical items (like beard trimmer, laptop cooling fan, mixer grinder etc) together as one? Same for computer gadgets (like external hard drives, mouse etc)? Or I need to separately mention each and every one of them?
Secondly, I will be doing my first temporary landing, do I need to mention about laptop and phones as well in the B4 forms? Because some of these items, I will bring back with me and return with them, when I finally settle there.

You can group them together as one section, eg, electronics total, $,1000, books total, $600, clothes total, $2,200, jewelry (costume and real) $1,100 and so on then grand total for everything

Yes, mention them and carry a copy of the form that will be stamped and returned to you at your initial landing for your future return trip
Hi, see above. All the best.

Hi All,
we are landing next Monday.
My wife , who is Canadian, has done the Moving from Spain in her name.
as we will be staying the first weeks before renting a flat at her Parent´s home in Calgary, we will rent at one storage center some space to receive the BOxes.
So at the shipping documents it is stated : "her Name "+ the adress of that Storage Center
As at the B4 BSF186 doc it is asked "importer´s adress" ... my question is:
Shall we write there at the B4-BSF186 form the parent´s adress or the Stporage center adress

Hi Everyone,
I am a Canadian Citizen living abroad since Feb 2008 with my wife (Canadian PR) and two kids (also Canadian Citizens). After moving abroad this is the first time in 9 years that we are visiting Canada in April 2018 for two weeks. We will have only basic luggage for two weeks vacation only. We will be returning back and then hopefully as planned would like to move back to Canada permanently in Jul 2018. There may be a chance that:
Q/Scenario 1) in summer 2018 only my wife and Kids move permanently to settle in Canada and I join them after 6 months (major items will be moved / shipped to Canada with the wife and kids and then I will take the remaining items very few with me)
OR
Q/Scenario 2) we the family move back together (all of us) to Canada permanently in Jul 2018 (All items will be moved to Canada in one time)
For the permanent move to Canada, (both scenario1 & 2) we will take our belongings/luggage/household items as described above.
Q 3) So in view of the above, how should we fill the forms, which forms to fill that are applicable and how to discuss it with CBSA during this visit in Apr 2017 for the subsequnet permanent move in 2018 (i.e. two trips - one for wife & kids and the other one for myself)??
Thanks for your advice and help, Regards.
Hi Qorax,
I will be landing in Toronto on 5th of April. I need to move my belongings with me which include personal clothes and kitchen items. Some of these goods to be carried with me and the rest will be shipped by cargo. Need to know the following :
1) What forms should be used and how to be filled ?
2) What is the level of details i need to give.?
3) For the personal Mobiles , Ipads and Laptops should be mentioned in the goods to carry list or no need, since those items will be carried by hands.
Please advise.

-There's a 1 in 100 chance that ur notebook will be scrutinized. But not impossible.
-Canada has stringent Piracy & Lewd Content laws.
-Nearly every traveller carries his/her notebook/tablet while entering Canada [in fact any nation] nowadays.
-Few downloads from will not mess u up.
-Hacked professional softwares r definitely not acceptable.
-But then, chances of detection is minuscule.

Looking forward to hear back from you with advise

I will be doing my short landing on the 14th of this month. Just wanted to confirm, I don't actually have to fill in these two specific forms, I can prepare my own lists of accompanying goods and goods to follow, correct?
Edited to add, I also have a cat that I will be bringing with me later on. Should I include her in the list of goods to follow as well the declaration form?
