Hi I wanted to ask how much time does it take CRA to process first time tax filings. I immigrated in 2012, I'm a full time student so I haven't worked.
I called CRA once they told me it takes 16 weeks to process a new tax return because they need to set everything up and the other time they didn't say anything as such and just mentioned the normal 4-6 week time.
I need to know this because I am sponsoring my spouse and I need my C Option Printout. So I'm wondering if I should file my tax return, wait 4 months and order a C option printout once it's available. Or just leave a letter instead of the C option printout in our application.
Are you working now? if you were a student who started working in 2012 then you need a T4 from your employer and a T2202A from your college/university.
If you are not working now, then you can have your T2202A transferred to next year.
The process of e-filing is free if you can do it yourself. But since you are a first time applicant its better you go to professional management services or H & R block. They are expensive but they do it right and let you know if you are eligible for a tax refund.
What choice do you have though even if it's 16 weeks? ??? Visit one of the volunteer tax clinics(the CRA website has a list of all their locations by province and city and also the income level you need to qualify for the free service).
I become PR and settled Sep 2013, since then I am not working and no income.
1- now I want to transfer part of my savings in last 10 years (around 100,000 CAD) via bank transfer from outside Canada to my account in Canada.
will it be taxable?
2- should I mention my whole savings (inside and outside US ) in my first TAX form??
3- any good consulting co for helping us filling the first tax form in Ottawa?
