On my background check, and others from what I have seen, it says something along the lines of "This Identity Summary (IdHS) is provided pursuant to 28 CFR 16.30-16.34 solely for you to conduct a personal review and/or obtain a change, correction, or updating of your record. This IdHS is not provided for the purpose of licensing or employment or any other purpose enumerated in 28 CFR 20.33"
I notified i was requesting this background check for permanent residency in canada, but the thing said that. Is it still viable to send in? I don't know if this is a type of default message on the paper or not. Thanks
It is to distinguish between a police record obtained by the individual for purposes of review, versus a background check obtained by authorities in the cases of ruling you out for potential employment or to obtain a professional license, for example. It's to specify that you requested the check yourself. The law makes clear that there are limited circumstances under which a person or entity can request your criminal record, in order to protect your privacy. If you'd like to review the relevant statute, it's here https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/28/20.33
