My husband (Canadian/UK living in Canada) and I (US citizen living in US) recently got married and he is starting a spousal sponsorship so I can live with him in Canada. I know I have to get a medical exam through a Canada designated medical doc, but I am not sure what I need to do with FBI police check. I've been to
the FBI site Canada gov points to, but what check do I need to get? Do I need to get "Background check for Employees/Licensing"? Does that include a fingerprint check/card? Or am I supposed to get "Identity History Summary Request" (which looks like it includes fingerprinting)?
you will need to get fingerprints done and send them along with payment and application to the fbi. note they are currently taking 12 weeks to process, so it's recommended to send in the application without the record if everything else is prepared. if you can wait the 3 months, then send it all together.
I have noticed on the FBI site that you could go to a "channeler" instead of going directly to FBI and get all the work done and get an electronic summary check result. I wonder if you can print that out and send it to the immigration.. Or just going directly to FBI a surer bet? I would only entertain this channeler option if the process was faster (I guess it will all go to FBI at the end so maybe the difference is a few days.. I don't know.)

DON'T use a channeler. CIC does NOT accept reports from a third party channeller. No matter what, CIC will know, even though it "looks" the same. Those who have had reports done by chanellers had them refused by CIC and asked to request the report DIRECTLY from the FBI. The Report MUST be requested by the applicant directly from the FBI for it to be valid.
While the Channeler would be much much faster (I think a few days vs 12 weeks), rhcohen2014 is right. Do not use channelers.
here are two examples of people who had issues:

I went to County Sheriff's Office after work tonight, and got an old fashioned finger printing done on a finger print card with black ink! I hope this is what CIC accepts. I have already filled out the identity history summary request form, so I will send it with the fingerprint card to FBI via Fedex.
This is the first thing I am doing (next is the medical exam) before anything else since I've been told FBI result takes ~3 months.
Yup, that is exactly what CIC wants. You sending the fingerprint card directly to the FBI. And yes, it is the first thing everyone should do since it takes awhile to get the letter back from the FBI.
