I think when you want to see the updates and officers notes on your applications, then you have to choose the other option. If you just need to see your information (your communication with IRCC), then you choose Privacy act. It is clearly written on the website when you proceed to order notes.

Guys, has anyone of you ordered the GCMS notes? I don't think the 3 months rule actually true all the time, as depends on each application, we will have different timeline. I think we can order the notes one or two weeks after the Background checks changed to In Progress. Plus, it's free so why not? I just ordered mine 30 mins ago.
I think it is 5$ if a Canadian Citizen orders and more if anyone from outside does (not sure how much), if my understanding is wrong than please post the link on the forum as well, everyone would like to take benefit by getting free GCMS notes

You CAN order it under the PRIVACY ACT for no cost!!
If you are ordering for yourself AND you are in Canada, then you order it under the Privacy Act and it is free of cost.
If someone else (friend/relative) is ordering it for you from Canada, then they have to order under the Access to Information act and it costs CAD 5.
If you go through an agency, it costs anywhere between CAD 25 to CAD 40.
