Hi, I'm applying for my Canada student permit from Australia.

I would like to ask if I can come back to my home country - China, then travel to Canada from China if I got the study permit.

Does it matter if the country I'm travelling from and the country I'm applying from is different?

It doesn't matter. You can enter Canada from China even if you have TRV approval from Australia.
